India is blessed with a rich history. The Indian history have had many ups and downs in its course of time. The journey from prehistoric India to the independence from the hands of the British can be broadly divided into three periods. Please click on the respective section to read about that period. In addition to that I have a separate section for Historical Maps Section. Please have a look at that too.

Ancient History

India played host to one of the oldest civilizations of the world, The Indus Valley Civilization. Hence we naturally expect a very rich Ancient Indian History. This era covered the glorious years of The Vedic Age, the Mauryan Empire, the Guptas etc. Great rulers like Harshavardhana, Chandragupta Maurya and philosophers like Chanakya spanned this entire era. The Southern Kings especially the Cholas, Cheras and Pandyas significantly helped in the evolution of the rich culture of this diverse country.

Medieval History

The Medieval years of Indian History spanned the entire period with the advent of the Turkish Invasion. They were responsible for huge destruction and plunder of the wealth. The Delhi Sultanate emerged as a result of this and followed by the mighty Mughal Emperors. This period saw a cultural mix and match with the Turkish and Mughal influence distinct in the architecture that originated in that era. The period also saw some great rulers like the Marathas whose most accomplished ruler was Chhatrapati Shivaji.

Modern History

The advent of the British began what we term as the Modern Indian History. The British rule in one hand unified the Indian territories and also spread lots of cultural influnces within India. The Indian Independence struggle put forth some wonderful freedom fighters including the revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar Azad and also the non-violent leaders led by Mahatma Gandhi.
